The British government is set to progress with using the full worth of seized Russian funds to aid the Ukrainian war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a joint statement, the leaders of the UK, France, and Germany asserted that this coordinated action would increase strain on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and compel Russia to come to the table.

They added that the initiative would be carried out in strong partnership with the US.

British penalties have frozen in excess of £25bn of Russian assets since Russia launched its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. However, previously, funds sent to Ukraine using Russia's funds had solely been drawn from profits and interest generated on them.

Sir Keir informed Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and Germany were aligned in their aim to drive progress toward employing the full value of the immobilized Russian sovereign funds to conclude the conflict.

He noted that additional sanctions soon would heighten the tension on the Russian government.

This declaration comes after European Union representatives convened in the Danish capital last week to debate employing immobilized Russian funds for a €140bn financial aid to Ukraine.

In the previous month, US President Donald Trump encouraged Group of Seven partners to confiscate or employ frozen Russian funds, based on media sources.

The worth of frozen Russian holdings in the Europe is calculated to be nearly €211bn.

Moscow executed large-scale aerial attacks across Ukraine on Friday, leading to electricity outages in large parts of Ukraine's capital, the city, and eight other regions.

Two people were killed and no fewer than 20 people were wounded in the strike, Ukrainian officials stated.

In a post on social media after the strike, Zelensky commented that the strategic strike focused on public and utility structures.

"What is required is not just talk but firm measures - from the United States, EU, and the Group of Seven - in delivering anti-aircraft weapons and implementing restrictions," he wrote.

"Each restrictive measure diminishes Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky declared, in a different message.

Additionally that day, Zelensky informed reporters he would press Sir Keir to enter the PURL scheme, under which alliance members buy weapons from the US to give to the Ukrainian forces.

While applauding the Britain's consistent assistance for Ukraine, he said it should indicate firmly that it would participate in the initiative, as well as enforce further sanctions on Moscow.
