It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
